I am a Home Ec teacher who went on maternity leave four years ago and have yet to return to work. I am currently a SAHM to two young children:
My daughter (D) is an imaginative four year old who loves to dance and play dress-up.
My son (G) is a loud, boisterous two year old who loves to run around and throw anything he can lift.
I find myself much more difficult to summarize as I am still trying to synthesize my LBK (life before kids) with the multiple roles I have now assumed with little or no training! The following snippets are the things I know for sure about my mom-self and will hopefully provide some insight and even amusement:
1. I clip coupons, read the flyers, and get excited about finding a deal on Craigslist. I like to be resourceful and get great quality items for a good value.
2. I have a file bursting with new recipes to try and lament the fact that my kids would choose to eat homemade mac and cheese for almost every meal if given the option. I love entertaining as it gives me an opportunity to cook for more complicated and appreciative palettes.
3. I participate in craft therapy by having a few mini projects in progress at any given time. These projects give me a creative outlet and help offset the reality that the chores I just finished will need to be done again in a few minutes or hours.
4. I make every effort to balance getting my work done and taking time to truly enjoy my kids. Organizing a closet does not make memories but, on the flip side, playing hide- and-go-seek does not put dinner on the table.
5. I am thankful that my sense of humour remains intact and that each day brings new giggles and even more cute things that I really should write down.
I am the forty-something sleep-deprived mom who loves her little people and is doing her best. I am a real mom!
