If you’re looking for natural skin care solutions during pregnancy or for your newborn baby (and you want something that you can find at major grocery stores and pharmacies across Canada), Burt’s Bees products are an excellent choice. My regular readers know that I’m a long-time fan of Burt’s Bees so I was delighted when they sent me some products to try from their Mama Bee and Baby Bee lines.
Mama Bee Products
Before baby arrives, the mama-to-be can pamper herself with Mama Bee Leg and Foot Cream and Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil. Designed to soothe tired legs and swollen ankles, Mama Bee Leg and Foot Cream is made with Peppermint Oil and Rosemary Extract. My ankles and feet swell considerably during the first week after giving birth and I also found this cream very refreshing during that time. I have also loved moisturizing my skin with the Nourishing Body Oil. I was worried that I would feel greasy after using it, but it’s very light and really does make my skin feel wonderful (I’m still using it to moisturize after my shower at 8 weeks postpartum)! Made with Vitamin E, Sweet Almond Oil, and lemon oils, this is a great option if you are looking for a natural product to help prevent stretch marks.
Baby Bee Products
Diaper rash was a challenge for us during the first few weeks of E’s life. I was on antibiotics and poor E developed both thrush and a nasty diaper rash as a result. Baby Bee Diaper Ointment protected E’s skin and created a barrier to help it heal (and it doesn’t contain nasty parabens or phthalates). I will be purchasing this product again as it is a wonderful and effective alternative to other non-natural brands. This ointment is thick and a little goes a very long way!
Lastly, I tested Baby Bee Shampoo and Wash (a PTPA Winning Product). I liked how this product is hypoallergenic, 98.9% natural, tear free, and both a shampoo and a body wash, which makes bath time very simple. The only thing I disliked was the fact that it contains perfume (it has a mild baby powder scent); however, Burt’s Bees also sells a Baby Bee Fragrance Free Shampoo and Wash.
