It’s almost impossible to find the perfect nursing bra. We can hunt and hunt and hunt for one, but it’s difficult to find a nursing bra that is not only usable, but makes us feel beautiful (maybe even sexy). The problem is that nursing bras are generally made only to serve a purpose – allowing easy access to feed and comfort a baby. With the need to combine form and function in mind, Mia Siepel created Boob Design, a Scandinavian company that creates beautiful, practical and stylish maternity and nursing wear for mothers all over the world.
What is a Boob Design Nursing Bra?
The Boob Design nursing bras are soft and seamless and made of a lightweight, breathable and fast drying material. Designed for use during pregnancy and nursing, the bras have wide adjustable straps with nickel-free details with a reinforced section under and around the breasts to offer extra support. The Fast Food style in particular is able to accommodate changing breast size – common during nursing – and the size can be altered with the additional hook and eye ribbon that is supplied with every bra.
Boob Design Nursing Bra Review:
Dana’s Thoughts: The first words that come out of my mouth when I saw the Boob Design Fast Food Nursing Bra were, “Oh my goodness, this is so cute!”. I instantly fell in love with my red striped Fast Food bra! The soft, seamless bra is so ridiculously comfortable, I often forget that I am wearing it.
Based on the company sizing chart, I ordered what should have been my size; however I think that that sizes run a little on the small side. I definitely could have gone with the next size up. Luckily, due to the soft and stretchy fabric, it’s not uncomfortable to wear the bra in the size that I received. I was also able to easily add in the additional hook and eye section that was supplied with the bra.
One thing that I have found occurring with this bra is that when I go to un-clip it to nurse, I find myself fumbling around. I think this is because of the softness and stretchy nature of the fabric, but I have never had this issue with any other bras before, so it always surprises me.
Overall, I absolutely LOVE this bra, and it has quickly become my go to comfy nursing bra. It also has made for a fantastic night time bra!
Jessica’s Thoughts: I love the colour of the striped fast food nursing bra. I would say my bust is on the small to average size so I usually don’t worry too much about under-wire support. This bra has a reinforced section under the breast which provides just enough support for me.
According to the size chart on the site, I am a size small, but I wish that I had ordered a medium as the bust area does fit small. I would advise anyone that measures near the top end of the sizing chart, to order the next size up. I do still wear my Boob Design bra, but it can be uncomfortable from time to time. I suspect this bra will be the perfect size closer to the end of my nursing relationship.
The clips for undoing the front flaps were easy for me to undo with one hand and they stay in position nicely during nursing. The clasps at the back, however, were difficult to fasten the first few wears, but after awhile, I got the hang of it and it did seem to loosen up.
The Boob Design nursing bra has held up nicely over the past month of wear. I always hang dry my bras so it has maintained shape and durability. I cannot comment on how it would hold up if machine dried but boob suggests all of their clothing to be air dried for both longevity of the clothing and care to the environment (a quality I do like!).
Nicole’s Thoughts: I tested both the Fine Dining nursing bra (pictured left) and the Fast Food nursing bra (pictured above), and I fell in love with both of them instantly! I have trouble finding nursing bras in my size, so I was impressed by the range of sizes offered by Boob Design. Both of the bras that I received were very comfortable and were exactly what I expected based on the photos I saw online.
The Fast Food bra is less supportive than the Fine Dining style; however, the Fast Food bra still had enough support for me. I preferred the Fast Food bra in my early postpartum days when I was dealing with engorgement and changes in size, but now that I’m about three months postpartum and my milk supply has regulated, I find that I wear my Fast Food bra less during the day and more as a comfortable nighttime bra.
The Fine Dining bra is my current favourite bra. It looks great under a t-shirt (there are no funny bulges or lines) and the bra provides the support and shaping that I’d expect from a non-nursing bra. I recommend the Fine Dining nursing bra for mama’s who plan to nurse long-term and want a product that doesn’t feel like a nursing bra!
The two Boob Design bras that I received are well-manufactured and still look new despite frequent washings. I wear my Fine Dining bra most days and my Fast Food bra most nights, and after a couple of months of almost daily wear, these bras have maintained their structure and support. Both bras are easy to fasten and unfasten, and they both provide good access for nursing to allow babies to latch properly.
Boob Design Nursing Bra – Pros:
- The Fine Dining bra fit is excellent and has more structure.
- The Fine Dining bra looks great under clothing.
- Both bra styles we tried are incredibly comfortable and allow for fluctuating size
- The Fast Food bra is made from a comfortable material and also features great colour, design, durability, and fits nicely under all clothing.
Boob Design Nursing Bra – Cons:
- The Fine Dining bra may feel too tight at times if purchased before your milk supply is regulated
- The back clasp on the Fast Food nursing bra was initially difficult to fasten
- Regardless of the style, women with larger cup sizes may not feel that it provides enough support.
